Tour of Meditation Practices   (4/3)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Ages 12 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Don't Stress Out!   (4/4)
In this 24/7 technological culture, most of us live at breakneck speed and never stray far from society's unrelenting, stress-filled drumbeat. Everybody tell us to reduce stress, but they don't realize that "taking a bubble bath" may not be our cup of tea. In this three-week workshop series, Pamela P. Latham, LPC, helps you select the stress-management methods and tools that fit your individual needs, values and lifestyle, and begin reclaiming the joy in living that is your birthright. $90 fee. $60 for members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Advanced Assertiveness   (4/5)
This workshop takes up where "How to be Assertive and Loving Too" left off. Through six weeks of dynamic instruction, group exercises and exciting role-plays, you learn how to give without being taken and how to be assertive without being obnoxious. Presented by Robert McGarey, M.A. $145 fee. $120 for members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Birthday Bash   (4/6)
[Potluck Party for Bill E., Henry G, and Glenda T..] We celebrate members' birthdays with a delectable potluck followed by birthday cake and games that are perfect triggers for unbridled group creativity! Video and Discussion   (4/7)
["Mozart And The Whale" with Josh Harnett [PG-13].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Ages 18 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Peace Sunday   (4/8)
In an effort to improve the peaceful conditions in the world, we host a monthly quiet meditation, where all beliefs and religious traditions are honored. Following the meditation, participants are welcome to join in a potluck brunch and share camaraderie and croissants. Ages 14 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

[Discussion Topic: Spiritual Growth at Alborz Persian Cuisine, 3300 W. Anderson Lane, #303.] Tackle a personal growth topic with a lively group of thinkers while savoring a new cuisine at one of Austin's many fascinating restaurants. Improvisational Art   (4/11)
Regardless of whether you're a novice or an artist in full bloom, you may find yourself overwhelmed by all the possibilities and "the rules," or underwhelmed by a lack of ideas. Painter's Block can stifle your freshest creative impulses, or even cause you to stop creating altogether. In this one night workshop you will experience a technique that will free up your mind and your brush, allowing your fresh inner creator to shine through. You might even surprise yourself! Led by local artist Leslie Harvey. Ages 12 and up. $25 (supplies included). $15 for members. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Communication Dynamics   (4/14)
A lively, entertaining, interactive workshop, "The Usual Error: Communication Dynamics" is presented by Kyeli, Pace, and Serafina Smith. We are passionate about communication and we'd love to share what we've learned with you and help you improve your communication skills! We'll do an exercise called "checking in" about the power of listening, explain The Usual Error, which is the root of many, many miscommunications, and talk about bridging the gaps between different communication styles and personality types. We'll talk about reassurance, irrationality, losing sight of the problem, and feeling considered. $20 sliding scale. $15 for members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Practice Your Personal Growth Potluck   (4/15)
[Springtime Food.] After attending all those workshops on communication and personal growth, where do you go to practice the skills you've learned? How about a potluck? Believe me, talking about the best way to barbecue the chicken (or set the table or arrange the centerpiece) is a very different experience here at the Center--where people try to communicate with assertiveness and love--than it is in the not-so-functional families many of us grew up in. The informal atmosphere helps us get to know each other in a candid way and practice our new communication skills on people who are more likely to encourage than to criticize. Free, but don't forget to bring something yummy to share! Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)
