Workshops for
August, 2002

Sacred Sexuality   (8/2)
An exciting evening of exploration in the realm of tantric techniques and practicing the presence of the divine in intimate relationships. Jade Beaty of Boulder, Colorado will share many perspectives and methods for bringing the divine presence into the intimate encounter. This workshop is a delightful experience for singles wanting to create a healthy and powerful relationship, and for couples looking for enhancement of their communication and lovemaking skills. $40 fee. $65 for couples. $30 for Annual and Premium members. Please RSVP.

Healing, Hypnosis and Prayer   (8/3)
Healing, hypnosis and prayer are powerful and transformative practices that, used properly, can enhance our quality of life. They are able to transform us because they all spring from deep connections: connections with ourselves, with others and with the divine. By understanding these connections, we can overcome the fears, emotional resistance and misunderstandings that are often triggered when we start to connect. With those roadblocks out of the way, we can remove many of the barriers that have kept us separate and begin improving and deepening these vital connections that nourish and sustain us throughout our lives. By Jim Bentley, Ph.D. $80 fee. $45 for Annual and Premium members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP.

Video and Discussion   (8/3)
["Gideon" with Christopher Lambert.] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Free.

Healthy Minds In Healthy Bodies   (8/5)
Wellness is a whole-person thing. In order to stay really healthy, we have to keep our bodies, minds, emotions and spirit all in great shape. So why not get together weekly and support each other in that quest? The leadership of the group rotates each week, and each meeting includes time for members to discuss and share their health goals and progress. In addition, the leader for that week may also decide to give a presentation on something that has excited them or been important to their health and healing. $10 monthly, paid the first Monday of each month. (MEMBERS ONLY.)

Tour of Meditation Practices   (8/6)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Free.

Reiki Exchange   (8/6)
Within each one of us there is the capacity to energetically heal the imbalances of the mind, body and spirit. Oceanna and Lia Nelson facilitate a group where novices and others can discuss, learn and practice energetic healing together. This is an experiential practice and support group, and is not designed to be an alternative to regular health care professionals. Free.

Power of Fables and Myths   (8/7)
["The Romance of Tristan and Iseult a Celtic Tale.] According to the mythologist Joseph Campbell, fables and fairy tales represent some of the most profound insights humankind has to offer. Only problem is, those insights aren't obvious at first glance. In this workshop, we use exhilarating role-plays and discussions to discover the in-depth meanings behind their plots. Free. Please RSVP.

Eckhart Tolle Video   (8/8)
In his book, "The Power of Now," Eckhart Tolle challenges us to release our attachment to past and future, and engage in the amazing immediacy of the present. These two videos let you experience Tolle first-hand, learn what he has to say, and challenge yourself to live more fully in the present. Please RSVP.

Birthday Bash   (8/9)
[Potluck Party for Christine, Ruth, Charlotte, Elaine and Chris.] We celebrate members' birthdays with a delectable potluck followed by birthday cake and games that are perfect triggers for unbridled group creativity! If you enjoy sparkling wit, an easygoing atmosphere and delightful food, don't miss this one! Don't forget to bring some food for the potluck! Free for Annual and Premium members. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.)

["K-Pax" with Kevin Spacey.] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. Music can lead you on an inner journey into your own consciousness. In the powerful process of Guided Imagery & Music, appropriately-selected musical compositions take you wherever you need to go for personal growth and fullfillment. Weaving My Identity   (8/17)
Divorce, losing a job, the loss of a parent or loved onesome events can make us painfully aware that our understanding of who we are can be rattled, shaken and disturbed. "Who we are" changes throughout our entire lifetimes. We usually start defining who we are at birth, reach an identity crisis during adolescence, and continue to adjust and redefine our identity throughout our lives. By gaining a clearer understanding of the processes and forces that shape our identity, we can more confidently start answering those haunting yet empowering questions, "Who am I?" and "How did I become the person I am?" Presented by Helen M. Gore-Laird, Ph.D. $30 fee. $20 for Annual and Premium members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP.

Practice Your Personal Growth Potluck   (8/18)
After attending all those workshops on communication and personal growth, where do you go to practice the skills you've learned? How about a potluck? Believe me, talking about the best way to barbecue the chicken (or set the table or arrange the centerpiece) is a very different experience here at the Center--where people try to communicate with assertiveness and love--than it is in the not-so-functional families many of us grew up in. The informal atmosphere helps us get to know each other in a candid way and practice our new communication skills on people who are more likely to encourage than to criticize. Free, but don't forget to bring something yummy to share! Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.)

Tour of Meditation Practices   (8/20)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Free.

Dream Shop   (8/21)
Dreams tantalize us with intriguing images every night. In this workshop you'll use those images to start resolving emotional conflicts in your life. You'll leave feeling clearer, more self-confident and more empowered. Presented by Robert McGarey, M.A. $20 fee. $10 for Annual and Premium members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP.

Movement For Life   (8/22)
Many of us don't run, ski and dance (or even stand up from a chair) with as much ease and gracefulness as we would like. Yet these are the movements of everyday life, and they need not be difficult. The Feldenkrais Method can show us how to move in ways that are natural for us. Through learning to notice our own physical sensations, we become more comfortable, relaxed and graceful. In the process, we may also begin to pay more attention to our emotional sensations and personal experiences. This can enable us to start resolving emotional traumas held in our bodies, and begin identifying our own needs in order to build better relationships. Presented by Elaine Dove, an authorized Awareness Through Movement teacher. $20 fee. $10 for Annual and Premium members. Please RSVP.

Wisdom Of The Goddess   (8/23)
Anthropologists say that in the distant past God was a woman, and worshipping the feminine aspect of the divine was commonplace. People viewed the Goddess as creatrix, mother and life giver. Seeing God as feminine rather than masculine changes how we approache and worship the divine. In this workshop, we will learn about the traditions that describe the wisdom of the Goddess, and have a chance to explore how that perspective influences our own personal relationship with the divine. Presented by Linda Menchen. $20 fee. $10 for Annual and Premium members. Please RSVP.

Alternative Lifestyles For The 21st Century   (8/28)
["Permaculture," an approach to building an ecologically sustainable lifestyle.] Not everyone has the same values and lifestyle as we do. That's a good thing, because we can often learn something important from people who see the world in a very different way. So every three months or so, we bring in someone who is able to explain to us a lifestyle that might seem a bit unusualor maybe even weird! We'll be covering a variety of novel topics, ranging from polyamory to permaculture to nudism to political activism. The more we know about uncommon options that are available to us, the more easily we can choose lifestyles that genuinely match our values, personality and goals in life. And besides that, it's fascinating! So come join us in this exploration of the unexpected. Free. Please RSVP.

Sexuality: A Touchy Subject   (8/30)
Most people have very few chances to hear frank talk from the opposite sex on what they honestly feel and believe about sex and sensuality. You too? Well, here's your chance! Come learn what men and women really feel about the touchy subject of sexuality in a lively, facilitated group discussion. Free.
