Celebrating Creativity   (8/2 from Noon - 4 pm)
[Explore the Body, Mind & Spirit Expo] Creativity is our birthright. If we don't have little doses of creativity sprinkled throughout our daily routines, we are missing out on some of the most wondrous gifts that life can bring. This event is our chance to take time to think and act creatively. You might find us going out to an art show or doing clay sculptures or putting on a talent show. Whatever we do, you can bet that there will be ample quantities of inventiveness, ingenuity and imagination flying through the air! $10 for members. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

Video and Discussion   (8/2 from 7 pm - Midnight)
["Elling" with Sven Nordin [R].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Ages 18 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Tour of Meditation Practices   (8/5 from 6:15 - 7 pm)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Ages 12 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Birthday Bash   (8/8 from 7 - 10 pm)

Board Meeting   (8/9 from 1 - 3 pm)
As a nonprofit, the Board of Directors establishes our mission and goals, and develops policies and procedures to help us move effectively in that direction. Our Board meetings are open to the public; feel free to come and share your energy and ideas to help us tap the creativity, love and playfulness of the human spirit. No charge. (Return to calendar)

Shabby Chic Cleanup   (8/9 from 3 - 6 pm)
Come tickle your creative sensibilities by helping us spruce up the interior of the Center, to make it feel more inviting and exciting to spend time in! You can help create the kind of comfortable, professional ambience that encourages people to learn more about themselves and each other. We're aiming to create a "shabby chic" atmosphere in three steps: Sort, Organize and then Decorate. Coordinated by Leslie Harvey. Free. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Practice Your Personal Growth Potluck   (8/17 from 1 - 3 pm)
[One Last Summer Splurge.] After attending all those workshops on communication and personal growth, where do you go to practice the skills you've learned? How about a potluck? Believe me, talking about the best way to barbecue the chicken (or set the table or arrange the centerpiece) is a very different experience here at the Center--where people try to communicate with assertiveness and love--than it is in the not-so-functional families many of us grew up in. The informal atmosphere helps us get to know each other in a candid way and practice our new communication skills on people who are more likely to encourage than to criticize. Free, but don't forget to bring something yummy to share! Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)
