Workshops for
February, 2008

Video and Discussion   (2/2)
["My Best Friend" with Dany Boon [PG-13].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Ages 18 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Board Meeting   (2/3)
As a nonprofit, the Board of Directors establishes our mission and goals, and develops policies and procedures to help us move effectively in that direction. Our Board meetings are open to the public; feel free to come and share your energy and ideas to help us tap the creativity, love and playfulness of the human spirit. No charge. (Return to calendar)

Shabby Chic Cleanup   (2/3)
Come tickle your creative sensibilities by helping us spruce up the interior of the Center, to make it feel more inviting and exciting to spend time in! You can help create the kind of comfortable, professional ambience that encourages people to learn more about themselves and each other. We're aiming to create a "shabby chic" atmosphere in three steps: Sort, Organize and then Decorate. Coordinated by Leslie Harvey. Free. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Tour of Meditation Practices   (2/5)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Ages 12 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Four Agreements: Toltec Shamanic Wisdom   (2/7)
Everything we experience is based on agreements we have made with ourselves, with other people, with life. The most important agreements are the ones we make with ourselves, where we tell ourselves who we are, how to behave, what is possible, what is impossible. Using The Four Agreements and Spiritual Integrity as guides, Heather Ash Amara helps you uncover what agreements you hold for your life, teaches you how to clear out what no longer serves you, and helps you create new agreements that reflect your true nature. You'll discover how to live life rooted in love and abundance rather than fear. Free. (Return to calendar)

Crafts   (2/8)
We'll be building bead-based earrings, so you can take home a pair or two, specially designed by you, by the end of the evening! Ages 16 and up. $20 fee. $10 for members. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Improvisational Art   (2/13)
Regardless of whether you're a novice or an artist in full bloom, you may find yourself overwhelmed by all the possibilities and "the rules," or underwhelmed by a lack of ideas. Painter's Block can stifle your freshest creative impulses, or even cause you to stop creating altogether. In this one night workshop you will experience a technique that will free up your mind and your brush, allowing your fresh inner creator to shine through. You might even surprise yourself! Led by local artist Leslie Harvey. Ages 12 and up. $25 (supplies included). $15 for members. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Can Your Inner Child Come Out To Play?   (2/15)
The mission of the Center is to Tap the Creativity, Love and Playfulness of the Human Spirit, so we take play very seriously. It rejuvenates our spirits, broadens our minds, and strengthens our bodies. Invite your inner child out for some fun as we play the games we used to play, or maybe never had a chance to play. Let yourself loose and let your creativity run wild! Free for members. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

Practice Your Personal Growth Potluck   (2/17)
[Warm Food for Chilly Bodies.] After attending all those workshops on communication and personal growth, where do you go to practice the skills you've learned? How about a potluck? Believe me, talking about the best way to barbecue the chicken (or set the table or arrange the centerpiece) is a very different experience here at the Center--where people try to communicate with assertiveness and love--than it is in the not-so-functional families many of us grew up in. The informal atmosphere helps us get to know each other in a candid way and practice our new communication skills on people who are more likely to encourage than to criticize. Free, but don't forget to bring something yummy to share! Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)
