Personal growth is not a one-person job. At the Center, we believe that the support of a community of like-minded people is a potent ingredient for exploring and understanding ourselves. That's why we offer you (as a member) a chance every year or so to share where you are right now on your personal growth journey. Many of our members say that having a small group of eight or ten people validating and supporting them for around two hours was one of the most powerful experiences they've had in a long time. We have a bunch of questions you can use as a starting point in your description, and you can improvise and embellish from there. (Like everything else here at the Center, the Growth Report is optional. However, we recommend it highly!) Free. Members only. Space is limited, so please RSVP.
Our words limit what we can think and help shape how we feel. They determine our definition of and access to the state called "enlightenment." This experiential workshop explores how our use of language both helps and hinders our personal growth, and provides essential guidelines for using words in the wisest way possible. Presented by Oceanna. $20 (or $10 for Annual and Premium members). Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Space is limited, so please RSVP.
Being nice is not the same as being a doormat. We can be helpful and caring without getting run over by someone else's aggressiveness. This four-week workshop teaches participants how to give without being taken and how to be assertive without being obnoxious. Presented by Robert McGarey, M.A. Continuing Education Units are available for certain professionals. $95 (or $50 for Annual and Premium members). The Human Potential Center, 1806 Cinnamon Path, Suite B. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Space is limited, so please RSVP.

Most of us get so caught up in day-to-day demands and deadlines that we lose track of the heroic dimensions of our lives. We become split off from ourselves and from the real meaning behind each day, and we can get stuck in self-defeating soulless patterns. In this workshop we make use of poetry, ceremony, and cutting-edge human technologies to reconnect with a grander view of who we are. Presented by Suzi McCoy, M.S., LPC. $20 (or $10 for Annual and Premium members). Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Space is limited, so please RSVP.
Find out what Tarzan would say to Jane if he could speak better English. This discussion group/workshop provides a chance to learn whether men really are from Mars, and how men and women can communicate anyway. Free.
Music can lead us on an inner journey into our own consciousness. In the powerful process of Music Evoked Imagery, appropriately-selected musical compositions take participants wherever they need to go for personal growth and fullfillment. At the end of their musical journey, group members share their experiences and then create a visual image depicting their voyage. Led by Amy Blair, a Fellow of the Association of Music and Imagery. $20 (or $10 for Annual and Premium members). Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Since July is the month for peaches in central Texas, we decided the best way to cool off would be by sharing some peaches and ice cream with other members! Members only. Space is limited, so please RSVP.
The mission of the Center is to Tap the Creativity, Love and Playfulness of the Human Spirit, so we take play very seriously. It rejuvenates our spirits, broadens our minds, and strengthens our bodies. Invite your inner child out for some fun as we play the games we used to play, or maybe never had a chance to play. Let yourself loose and let your creativity run wild! Members only. Free. Space is limited, so please RSVP.
According to the mythologist Joseph Campbell, fables and fairy tales represent some of the most profound insights humankind has to offer. Only problem is, those insights aren't obvious at first glance. In this workshop, we use exhilarating role-plays and discussions to discover the in-depth meanings behind their plots. Free. Space is limited, so please RSVP.
After attending all those workshops on communication and personal growth, where do you go to practice the skills you've learned? How about a potluck? Believe me, talking about the best way to barbecue the chicken (or set the table or arrange the centerpiece) is a very different experience here at the Center--where people try to communicate with assertiveness and love--than it is in the not-so-functional families many of us grew up in. The informal atmosphere helps us get to know each other in a candid way and practice our new communication skills on people who are more likely to encourage than to criticize. Free, but don't forget to bring something yummy to share! Members only. Space is limited, so please RSVP.
Within each one of us there is the capacity to energetically heal the imbalances of the mind, body and spirit. Oceanna and Lia Nelson facilitate a group where novices and others can discuss, learn and practice energetic healing together. This is an experiential practice and support group, and is not designed to be an alternative to regular health care professionals. Free. Space is limited, so please RSVP.
Most people have very few chances to hear frank talk from the opposite sex on what they honestly feel and believe about sex and sensuality. You too? Well, here's your chance! Come learn what men and women really feel about the touchy subject of sexuality in a lively, facilitated group discussion. Free.
The chapters (or "bardos") of the Tibetan Book of the Dead are packed with tantalizing ideas on the nature of consciousness. Even though some of these concepts are foreign to our Western thinking, they have provided spiritual guidance and wisdom to literally millions of people over the centuries. In this workshop we will explore some of the fascinating beliefs contained within the bardos, and investigate the effect they can have on our own personal study of consciousness. Presented by Pamela Latham, LPC. Continuing Education Units are available for certain professionals. $20. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Space is limited, so please RSVP.
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Free.
Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us!
Qigong (sometimes spelled "Chi Kung") is a type of exercise developed in ancient China. It combines physical and mental techniques to increase and circulate one's "Qi" or internal energy. Wild Goose Qigong is a style of Qigong using the flowing and graceful movements of geese. Practitioners of Wild Goose Qigong often enjoy improved health and well-being, including improved balance, increased range of motion, reduced mental stress and a feeling of rejuvenation. $10 per session.
Most of us spend years searching for satisfying relationships, and the results are often less than we might hope for. We may have overlooked the all-important first step: becoming clear about what we really want. This workshop provides valuable tools for identifying traits we desire in a partner, and suggestions on how to build fulfilling relationships using these newfound insights. Free.
