Workshops for
July, 2002

Power of Fables and Myths   (7/1)
["Peddler Polly and the Giant" by Aaron Shepard.] According to the mythologist Joseph Campbell, fables and fairy tales represent some of the most profound insights humankind has to offer. Only problem is, those insights aren't obvious at first glance. In this workshop, we use exhilarating role-plays and discussions to discover the in-depth meanings behind their plots. Free. Please RSVP.

Tour of Meditation Practices   (7/2)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Free.

Reiki Exchange   (7/2)
Within each one of us there is the capacity to energetically heal the imbalances of the mind, body and spirit. Oceanna and Lia Nelson facilitate a group where novices and others can discuss, learn and practice energetic healing together. This is an experiential practice and support group, and is not designed to be an alternative to regular health care professionals. Free.

Fourth Of July BBQ   (7/4)
Each year on Independence Day, we celebrate our own personal independence in some way. This year, we'll be having a back-yard barbecue, so bring along grillables and other side-dishes and we'll cennect with each other (while still maintaining our own independence, of course!). Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.)

Video and Discussion   (7/6)
["Stuart Saves His Family" with Al Franken.] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Free.

Healthy Minds In Healthy Bodies   (7/8)
Wellness is a whole-person thing. In order to stay really healthy, we have to keep our bodies, minds, emotions and spirit all in great shape. So why not get together weekly and support each other in that quest? The leadership of the group rotates each week, and each meeting includes time for members to discuss and share their health goals and progress. In addition, the leader for that week may also decide to give a presentation on something that has excited them and been important to their health and healing. $10 monthly, paid the first Monday of each month. (MEMBERS ONLY.)

Chitchat & Chow   (7/9)
Tackle a personal growth topic with a lively group of thinkers while savoring a new cuisine at one of Austin's many fascinating restaurants. Topics range from Money to Creativity to Careers to Spiritual Growth. Free (except for cost of meal).

Skills, dreams, qualifications, creativity, money!. How do you mix these together and find a satisfying career? This workshop using supportive group interaction and the Self-Directed Search standardized test helps you decide. $60 includes materials. $40 for Annual and Premium members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP.
