Wild Goose Qi Gong   (7/3)
Qi Gong (sometimes spelled "Chi Kung") is a choreographed set of Chinese exercises designed to improve our overall health and well-being. Based on the flowing and graceful movements of geese, it uses stretching and other techniques to open the acupuncture meridians and increase our vitality and energy. Qi Gong participants enjoy a greater range of motion, improved balance, reduced mental stress and a feeling of rejuvenation. Led by Louis Knox. $5 fee. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Tai Chi Chuan   (7/3)
Tai Chi is a choreographed set of martial art postures that are designed to increase your power and agility by using your inner energy. Like Qi Gong, Tai Chi helps improve your range of motion and lung capacity, and it places a special emphasis on balance. Practitioners often enjoy reduced stress and a feeling of well-being. If you are interested, some time will also be spent learning simple self-defense techniques. Led by Louis Knox. $36 for 6 weeks. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Video and Discussion   (7/3)
["Night Of The Iguana" with Richard Burton [NR].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Free. (Return to calendar)

Fourth Of July Potluck   (7/4)
Each year on Independence Day, we celebrate our own personal independence in some way. This year we'll be having a potluck picnic, so bring along some yummy dishes and we'll connect with each other (while still maintaining our own independence, of course!). After eating we'll head off to view the fireworks and return around 11 pm. Free. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

Tour of Meditation Practices   (7/6)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Free. (Return to calendar)

Within each one of us there is the capacity to energetically heal the imbalances of the mind, body and spirit. Participate in a group where novices and others can discuss, learn and practice energy healing together. Christine McNew and Brad Tessieri lead this experiential practice and support group. This is not designed to be an alternative to regular health care professionals. Free. (Return to calendar)

Power of Fables and Myths   (7/8)
["Johnny Appleseed," as retold by Charles Sullivan.] According to the mythologist Joseph Campbell, fables and fairy tales represent some of the most profound insights humankind has to offer. Only problem is, those insights aren't obvious at first glance. In this workshop, we use exhilarating role-plays and discussions to discover the in-depth meanings behind their plots. Free. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Practice Your Personal Growth Potluck   (7/25)
[Red, White and Blue Food.] After attending all those workshops on communication and personal growth, where do you go to practice the skills you've learned? How about a potluck? Believe me, talking about the best way to barbecue the chicken (or set the table or arrange the centerpiece) is a very different experience here at the Center--where people try to communicate with assertiveness and love--than it is in the not-so-functional families many of us grew up in. The informal atmosphere helps us get to know each other in a candid way and practice our new communication skills on people who are more likely to encourage than to criticize. Free, but don't forget to bring something yummy to share! Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)
