Wild Goose Qi Gong   (5/1)
Qi Gong (sometimes spelled "Chi Kung") is a choreographed set of Chinese exercises designed to improve our overall health and well-being. Based on the flowing and graceful movements of geese, it uses stretching and other techniques to open the acupuncture meridians and increase our vitality and energy. Qi Gong participants enjoy a greater range of motion, improved balance, reduced mental stress and a feeling of rejuvenation. Led by Louis Knox. $5 fee. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Tai Chi Chuan   (5/1)
Tai Chi is a choreographed set of martial art postures that are designed to increase your power and agility by using your inner energy. Like Qi Gong, Tai Chi helps improve your range of motion and lung capacity, and it places a special emphasis on balance. Practitioners often enjoy reduced stress and a feeling of well-being. If you are interested, some time will also be spent learning simple self-defense techniques. Led by Louis Knox. $36 for 6 weeks. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Video and Discussion   (5/1)
["Twelfth Night" with Helena Bonham Carter [PG].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Free. (Return to calendar)

Movement For Life   (5/3)
Many of us don't run, dance, or even stand up from a chair with as much ease and grace as we would like. But these movements of everyday life don't need to be difficult. The Feldenkrais Method shows us how to move in ways that are natural. This class series will teach us how to recognize our physical sensations and become more comfortable, relaxed and graceful. We will develop the skills to better care for ourselves and keep ourselves out of pain, enabling us to move toward the realization of our goals. Presented by Elaine Dove, Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner. For more information, visit www.HumanPotentialCenter.org or call Elaine at 470-4268. $80 for eight-week series. $12 single class. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP to 470-4268. (Return to calendar)

Tour of Meditation Practices   (5/4)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Free. (Return to calendar)

Reiki Exchange   (5/4)
Within each one of us there is the capacity to energetically heal the imbalances of the mind, body and spirit. This is not designed to be an alternative to regular health care professionals. Free. (Return to calendar)

Sacred Tribal Drum Circle   (5/7)
The Native-American drum is not just a musical instrument, it is a tool for the transformation of consciousness. This class teaches you how to use sound and rhythm for creative expression. In the process, you'll learn that sound and rhythm are also healing modalities that engage drummers on a deep emotional level, producing profound beneficial effects on your body and mind. Bring a drum and/or rattle if you have one, and a prayer or spiritual song. Presented by Frank Del Toro. $20 fee. $15 for members. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Improvisational Art   (5/12)
Sometimes art is just too thought out. As artists, we have a tendency to get caught up in the details, thinking too much or agonizing too long over a subject.
