Tour of Meditation Practices   (5/3)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Free. Reiki Exchange   (5/3)
Within each one of us there is the capacity to energetically heal the imbalances of the mind, body and spirit. Participate in a group where novices and others can discuss, learn and practice energy healing together. Oceanna leads this experiential practice and support group. How To Be Assertive And Loving Too   (5/4)
Being nice is not the same as being a doormat. You can be helpful and caring without getting run over by someone else's aggressiveness. This four-week workshop teaches you how to give without being taken and how to be assertive without being obnoxious. Presented by Robert McGarey, M.A. $95 for the four-week series. $75 for members. Grief Support Group   (5/5)
Ed Mustoe, Bereavement Services Coordinator for Odyssey Hospice, will be on hand to lead an adult grief support group for six weeks. If you want to come to just one or two of the groups or just pick up information and literature, you have that option. It is open to all who would like to talk about their loss in a group setting, regardless of the date or cause of loss. Ages 18 and up. Free. Tai Chi Chuan   (5/7)
Tai Chi is a choreographed set of martial art postures that are designed to increase your power and agility by using your inner energy. Like Qi Gong, Tai Chi helps improve your range of motion and lung capacity, and it places a special emphasis on balance. Practitioners often enjoy reduced stress and a feeling of well-being. If you are interested, some time will also be spent learning simple self-defense techniques. Led by Louis Knox. Ages 12 and up. $36 for 6 weeks or $8 per class (the first class is free). Please RSVP. Wild Goose Qi Gong   (5/7)
Qi Gong (sometimes spelled "Chi Kung") is a choreographed set of Chinese exercises designed to improve our overall health and well-being. Based on the flowing and graceful movements of geese, it uses stretching and other techniques to open the acupuncture meridians and increase our vitality and energy. Qi Gong participants enjoy a greater range of motion, improved balance, reduced mental stress and a feeling of rejuvenation. Led by Louis Knox. $5 (the first class is free). Please RSVP. Video and Discussion   (5/7)
["Danny Deckchair" with Rhys Ifans [PG-13].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Ages 18 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)
 
Peace Sunday   (5/8)
In an effort to improve the peaceful conditions in the world, we host a monthly quiet meditation, where all beliefs and religious traditions are honored. Painter's Block can stifle your freshest creative impulses, or even cause you to stop creating altogether. In this one night workshop you will experience a technique that will free up your mind and your brush, allowing your fresh inner creator to shine through. Her artwork is a celebration of her personal victory of rising above the abyss of unrelenting chronic pain, personal loss, and deep grief. This workshop helps you learn how to use artwork to move from depression and hopelessness to faith and emotional healing.
