Video and Discussion   (11/1)
["Real Women Have Curves" with America Ferrera [PG-13].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Free. (Return to calendar)

Wild Goose Qi Gong   (11/3)
Qi Gong (sometimes spelled "Chi Kung") is a choreographed set of Chinese exercises designed to improve our overall health and well-being. Based on the flowing and graceful movements of geese, it uses stretching and other techniques to open the acupuncture meridians and increase our vitality and energy. Qi Gong participants enjoy a greater range of motion, improved balance, reduced mental stress and a feeling of rejuvenation. Led by Louis Knox. $5 fee. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Tai Chi Chuan   (11/3)
Tai Chi is a choreographed set of martial art postures that are designed to increase your power and agility by using your inner energy. Like Qi Gong, Tai Chi helps improve your range of motion and lung capacity, and it places a special emphasis on balance. Practitioners often enjoy reduced stress and a feeling of well-being. If you are interested, some time will also be spent learning simple self-defense techniques. Led by Louis Knox. $36 for 6 weeks. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Tour of Meditation Practices   (11/4)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Free. (Return to calendar)

Reiki Exchange   (11/4)
Within each one of us there is the capacity to energetically heal the imbalances of the mind, body and spirit. Participate in a group where novices and others can discuss, learn and practice energy healing together. Raachaele Williams and Deborah Dickson lead this experiential practice and support group. This is not designed to be an alternative to regular health care professionals. Free. (Return to calendar)

Feldenkrais Movement For Life   (11/5)
Many of us don't run, dance, or even stand up from a chair with as much ease and grace as we would like. But these movements of everyday life don't need to be difficult. The Feldenkrais Method shows us how to move in ways that are natural. Elaine Dove, an authorized Awareness Through Movement teacher, will teach us how to recognize our physical sensations and become more comfortable, relaxed and graceful. This helps build better relationships and achieve other personal goals. $80 for six-week series. $15 per week. $65 for Annual and Premium members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Values Clarification   (11/8)
Our value systems help determine the kind of people we are and the quality of the relationships we build. Yet most of us rarely take time to examine where we want to go in life, and so we often end up with lives that are constructed to the specifications of our family, religion or economic status. This delightful, fast-paced workshop helps you get clear on your goals and start building a life that is truly your own. $75 fee. $50 for Annual and Premium members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Improvisational Art   (11/12)
Sometimes art is just too thought out. As artists, we have a tendency to get caught up in the details, thinking too much or agonizing too long over a subject. This can stifle our freshest creative impulses. In this one night workshop you will experience a technique that will free up your mind and your brush, allowing your inner Picasso to shine through. You might even surprise yourself! Led by local artist Leslie Harvey. $25 (supplies included). $15 for Annual and Premium members. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Thanksgiving Feast   (11/27)
Gratitude and thankfulness are essential components of a happy and fulfilling life, according to many personal-growth authors and a number of scientific studies. Fortunately, our nation has set aside one day a year specifically for the purpose of giving thanks. We'll indulge in the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings, and it's a potluck so you can add your own special touch to the meal. Let's make this a special time to remember all we've been blessed with, and to share those feelings with each other. No charge. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)
