Tour of Meditation Practices   (10/2)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Ages 12 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Birthday Bash   (10/5)
[Potluck Party for Morgan, Colleen, Ed, Oceanna and Tommie.] We celebrate members' birthdays with a delectable potluck followed by birthday cake and games that are perfect triggers for unbridled group creativity! If you enjoy sparkling wit, an easygoing atmosphere and delightful food, don't miss this one! Free for members. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

Board Meeting   (10/6)
As a nonprofit, the Board of Directors establishes our mission and goals, and develops policies and procedures to help us move effectively in that direction. Our Board meetings are open to the public; feel free to come and share your energy and ideas to help us tap the creativity, love and playfulness of the human spirit. No charge. (Return to calendar)

Video and Discussion   (10/6)
["Bug" with Ed Begley Jr. [NR].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Ages 18 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Chitchat & Chow   (10/9)
[Discussion Topic: Spiritual Growth at El Gallo, 2910 S. Congress.] Tackle a personal growth topic with a lively group of thinkers while savoring a new cuisine at one of Austin's many fascinating restaurants. Topics range from Money to Creativity to Careers to Spiritual Growth. Ages 18 and up. Free (except for cost of meal). (Return to calendar)

Improvisational Art   (10/10)
Regardless of whether you're a novice or an artist in full bloom, you may find yourself overwhelmed by all the possibilities and "the rules," or underwhelmed by a lack of ideas. Painter's Block can stifle your freshest creative impulses, or even cause you to stop creating altogether. In this one night workshop you will experience a technique that will free up your mind and your brush, allowing your fresh inner creator to shine through. You might even surprise yourself! Led by local artist Leslie Harvey. Ages 12 and up. $25 (supplies included). $15 for members. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Peace Sunday   (10/14)
In an effort to improve the peaceful conditions in the world, we host a monthly quiet meditation, where all beliefs and religious traditions are honored. Following the meditation, participants are welcome to join in a potluck brunch and share camaraderie and croissants. Ages 14 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Christmas Crafts   (10/15)
What better time to use your creativity than when you're preparing for Christmas? Bring those projects you've been wanting to finish and we'll work on them together. Then you can give those you love presents handcrafted specifically for them, and save money at the same time! Ages 12 and up. Free for members. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

Reiki Exchange   (10/16)

Dream Shop   (10/17)
Dreams are an untapped source of self-discovery, and most of us don't realize we create hundreds of intriguing images in our dreams every night. Can Your Inner Child Come Out To Play?   (10/19)
The mission of the Center is to Tap the Creativity, Love and Playfulness of the Human Spirit, so we take play very seriously. It rejuvenates our spirits, broadens our minds, and strengthens our bodies. Invite your inner child out for some fun as we play the games we used to play, or maybe never had a chance to play. Let yourself loose and let your creativity run wild! Free for members. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

Video and Discussion   (10/20)
["Monster House" with Jason Lee [PG].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. Practice Your Personal Growth Potluck   (10/21)
[Scary but Edible Food.] After attending all those workshops on communication and personal growth, where do you go to practice the skills you've learned? How about a potluck? Believe me, talking about the best way to barbecue the chicken (or set the table or arrange the centerpiece) is a very different experience here at the Center--where people try to communicate with assertiveness and love--than it is in the not-so-functional families many of us grew up in. The informal atmosphere helps us get to know each other in a candid way and practice our new communication skills on people who are more likely to encourage than to criticize. Free, but don't forget to bring something yummy to share! Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Shabby Chic Cleanup   (10/21)
Come tickle your creative sensibilities by helping us spruce up the interior of the Center, to make it feel more inviting and exciting to spend time in! You can help create the kind of comfortable, professional ambience that encourages people to learn more about themselves and each other. We're aiming to create a "shabby chic" atmosphere in three steps: Sort, Organize and then Decorate. Coordinated by Leslie Harvey. Free. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Building Your Self-Esteem   (10/25)
How we feel about ourselves impacts every part of our lives: our romantic relationships, our career, our finances, our family life. It determines our satisfaction with life and our psychological health and resiliency. This four-week workshop teaches you how to cope with difficult situations, enjoy your life and improve your relationships through boosting your self-confidence and building sound self-esteem. Presented by Robert McGarey, M.A. $120 fee. $95 for members. Continuing Education Units (CEU's) are available for some professionals. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Operation 1st Impression   (10/27)
Our 1.3 acre campus offers lots of opportunities to get "back to the soil," get your hands in the dirt and get some exercise at the same time. We're mowing the lawn, weeding the gardens, trimming the trees and stocking the greenhouse with wonderful plants for the fall and winter. Morgan Anderson, our intern, is coordinating our efforts, and she's cooked up cinnamon buns for breakfast and hamburgers for lunch to boot! Come join us! Free. Please RSVP. (Return to calendar)

Fright Night   (10/27)
[Costume appreciated] Bring a costume and live it up as you explore an alternative side of your psyche! Ages 18 and up. Free for members. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)
